A coffee table is no longer a simple place to rest your feet. Today's coffee table is a design feature in many living rooms, family rooms, and dens. This feature provides a wonderful place to bring the family together around one table for popcorn sharing, gift giving, game playing, and simple fellowship.

You can find a coffee table to match almost any home decor or you can be creative and invent a coffee table of your very own according to your personal tastes and the needs of your family. I prefer storage in any way I can get it. So coffee tables that allow a great hiding place for clutter, pillows, or a blanket is a great idea for me. I also like a table that can be rather easily moved around when the space needs to be more opened up for whatever reason. This means my coffee table needs to be lightweight rather than some of the more solid tables that are often found in outdoor shows and flea markets.

The beauty of furniture is that there is no right or wrong for everyone or even for most people most of the time. We all have different needs, requirements, and desires of our furniture and most of us would like to have something a little different than our neighbors have.

One of my favorites is one that is made from a wrought iron frame with a top that is made of cement and tiles. This can be a beautiful and elegant statement in any room but particularly in a living room. You may however want to choose something a little softer if you are going to have toddlers around.

Others that can be made quite easily would be simple wooden coffee tables. You can find many patterns in home improvement stores for different coffee tables as well as many online that are completely free. You do not have to pay a fortune to make many of these, particularly if you already have the equipment (saws, sanders, etc) that would be needed in order to make a wooden coffee table.

In addition to these you can use baskets for the base and add a top or simply use a travel trunk with a tablecloth, or without one. Your options are limited only by your imagination when it comes to creating a great coffee table for your living space. One of the most important things to remember about a coffee table is that you should scale it according to the amount of space you have. If you do not have a large amount of room, it is probably unwise to choose a larger coffee table that will only serve to make your room seem smaller. Other than that, have fun deciding which table is the table for your room.
